Students ‘Wowed’ by DuPont Science
To expand their knowledge and broaden their vision, more than 200 students and teachers from Takanezawa High School recently toured the DuPont Utsunomiya site in Japan, to learn more about DuPont science and technologies.
After an introduction to the company and the Utsunomiya site, the group visited the Performance Coatings laboratory, plant test field and site operations area. The students were surprised to discover the many DuPont products they use in their daily lives.
“I never imagined such a great number of products around us are made from DuPont materials. In particular, it is amazing to know that jeans can be made partially with plant-based material," said one student while examining a pair of jeans made with Sorona® fiber.
Another student who was trying to tear a Tyvek® sheet said, “Unbelievable! It looks like paper, but I can't tear it. In the future, I'd like to develop such a wonderful product.”
The students and teachers were impressed with DuPont scientific breakthroughs.
“It is a great opportunity for the students to have a hands-on experience rather than just studying textbooks in school,” said teacher Takashi Usami. “And not just the students, but the teachers also are excited to see the dynamic manufacturing plant up close.”
Nana Kakimi, DuPont project leader for the event, said, "I am very pleased we have successfully introduced DuPont as a science company to these high school students.”
