Symantec Named to Corporate Responsibility Magazine's 100 Best Corporate Citizens List

Mar 3, 2010 7:52 PM CST

(Justmeans.com / CSR News) - On March 2, Corporate Responsibility Magazine  announced their eleventh annual Best Corporate Citizens List – Symantec made the list for the second consecutive year, coming in at number 66.

“Symantec shares the list with several large technology companies, including HP, Intel, and Microsoft,” said Cecily Joseph, Symantec’s Director of Corporate Responsibility. “It’s exciting that, while we may be smaller in terms of revenue, our corporate responsibility rankings are on par with some of the largest tech companies out there.”

The 100 Best Corporate Citizens List is North America’s most prestigious corporate citizenship and responsibility ranking for Russell 1000 companies. It’s widely considered to be one of the most influential corporate rankings, together with Fortune’s “Most Admired Companies” and the “100 Best Companies to Work For” list.

Each company on the list is evaluated according to a weighted average of their scores across seven categories:

  1. Environment
  2. Climate change
  3. Human Rights
  4. Employee relations
  5. Corporate governance
  6. Philanthropy
  7. Finance

Company rankings are based solely on a review of publicly-available information, including Corporate Responsibility reports and financial statements.

“Company stakeholders, from investors to customers to employees to regulators, watch the 100 Best Corporate Citizens List closely, and are using it now more than ever to make important decisions. As a result, making the List is worth millions or even billions in increased shareholder and brand value,” said Jay Whitehead, publisher of Corporate Responsibility Magazine. “That is why we are seeing leading companies focusing in greater numbers on their public reporting and performance, particularly in the areas of climate change, environment, employee relations, and human rights.”
