Unilever Buys 100% Sustainable Palm Oil; Eco by Cosentino Partners with Brad Pitt's Make It Right; Ecolab Saves Water for Pepsico - CSR Minute for August 7, 2012
Unilever is now one of the world’s greenest buyers of palm oil. The food company, which buys 1-½ million tons annually, says it will reach its target of 100 percent certified sustainable palm oil by the end of 2012. The palm oil initiative is part of Unilever’s Sustainable Agriculture Program, which defines the company’s agricultural practice guidelines.
ECO by Cosentino will extend its partnership with Brad Pitt’s Make It Right project by donating products to re-fit the Bancroft School in Kansas City, the actor’s hometown. ECO makes countertop and surfacing materials out of recycled raw materials. The company has worked with Make It Right in New Orleans, where 150 affordable, green, storm-resistant homes are being built in the city’s Lower 9th Ward which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
Ecolab has reported on sustainability results at its one million customer locations worldwide. Among the highlights are the savings of 662 million liters of water annually at Pepsico bottling plants. Ecolab provides customers with products, services and technical expertise to save water and energy while reducing waste.
