The International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) was established in 2001 to act as a catalyst for performance improvement. Today, we bring together 21 mining and metals companies as well as 32 national and regional mining associations and global commodity associations to address the core sustainable development challenges faced by the industry.

Vale workshop considers challenges in Africa

(Justmeans.com / CSR News) - Vale sponsored an internal workshop on Global Challenges – Africa on 28 May in Rio de Janeiro. The objective was to provide an overview of risks and opportunities for mining investments in Africa.  Paul Collier, Professor of Economics, Oxford University, and Director, Centre for the Study of African Economies gave the key note address.

He subsequently participated in a panel on ‘Resource Curse or Resource Endowment’ together with Kathryn McPhail and Paul Kapelus, founder of the Africa Institute of Corporate Citizenship.

About 100 people attended the one day session which also saw presentations from Gold Fields Ghana, the IFC, the South Africa Institute of International Affairs and the Eurasia Group.
