Verizon Wireless has introduced a mobile giving program for users to contribute to communities affected by the Colorado wildfires. Customers can use their mobile phones to make $10 donations to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to support evacuees by texting the word REDCROSS to the organization’s code 90999.Verizon is waiving text-messaging fees, so 100 percent of each $10 donation goes to the Red Cross.
FedEx and the Jane Goodall Institute have developed a program to engage primary school students to take direct action to help the environment. 200 students from four primary schools in Hong Kong are leading lifestyles with lower carbon dioxide emissions and are raising eco-awareness through the “Fed Ex We Deliver Green” Classroom program, an innovative education initiative.
The 2012 Social Change Impact Report from Walden University shows that two-thirds of adults around the world agree that when economic conditions are bad, it is more important to be involved in social change than when economic conditions are good. The second annual global survey includes comments from 9,000 adults about the roles of governments, nonprofits, and the media in social change.
