Keystone Human Services is a nonprofit organization committed to serving the community. Keystone is committed to creating an environment where all people can grow, make choices, and be valued and contributing members of society. Keystone provides comprehensive community-based services for children, young people, adults and families in the areas of intellectual disabilities (mental retardation), autism, mental health, early intervention and children and family services. Keystone serves individuals and families in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and Connecticut. Keystone Human Services is also engaged in initiatives in Russia and Moldova.

Walk for a Healthy Community and Support Susquehanna Service Dogs

Join Susquehanna Service Dogs for the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community on May 14 on City Island in Harrisburg. The 5k walk begins at 9 a.m. and the one-mile fun walk begins at 9:15 a.m. All money raised by walkers goes directly to SSD and the other participating organizations. Top SSD fundraiser wins naming rights to an SSD puppy!

Harrisburg, PA  April 13, 2011 – Susquehanna Service Dogs is participating in the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community on Saturday, May 14 on City Island in Harrisburg, PA. The Walk is underwritten by Highmark Blue Shield and benefits health and human service organizations in Central Pennsylvania. One hundred percent of the money raised by walkers goes directly to SSD and the other participating organizations.

This year, SSD will be awarding a prize to the individual or team that raises the most money for SSD. This individual or team will receive naming rights to a puppy, an honor valued at $500. 

The 5k Walk begins at 9 a.m. and the One-Mile Fun Walk begins at 9:15 a.m. The route of the Walk is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers. Dogs are welcome. After the Walk, SSD is holding a picnic for everyone who walked and raised money for SSD.

To participate in the Walk, register online and select Susquehanna Service Dogs as the organization you’re supporting. Walkers can walk as individuals or form teams.

People who are unable to attend the Walk on May 14 can still participate by becoming a virtual walker. To become a virtual walker, simply make a donation to Susquehanna Service Dogs for the Walk for a Healthy Community.

Susquehanna Service Dogs is entirely funded by donations. SSD raises and trains service dogs, hearing dogs, balance dogs, and facility dogs for men, women and children with physical and psychiatric disabilities. To date, SSD has placed over 190 service dogs in Pennsylvania and the surrounding states. SSD is a program of Keystone Children & Family Services.
