Weigh In on these Socially Innovative Ideas in Finance...
|
As may have heard Justmeans and the Financial Times are hosting the 2010 Social Innovation Awards in New York City this March. We've gotten over 100 idea submissions from companies and organizations of all different shapes and sizes. We want to hear your thoughts on these ideas in the "Finance" category. This category includes social investment strategy--or ways companies invest their financial assets in order to advance causes or programs that have both social and financial returns. |

Jeff Mowatt 29 January 2010 These entries take a long time to load, but I did read a couple and noted a similarity with our own white paper and follow on commitment for a social enterprise investment mechanism. It was first placed in the public domain in 1997 and incorporated in most of our follow on strategy papers.
As an organisation with limited funds, we weren't able to afford the entry fee for these awards, but would appreciate being credited for our IP. Today, I placed a suggestion in Change orgs Ideas for America, which describes 13 years of commitment http://jm.ly/NjOBZe |

Samantha Given-Dennis 28 January 2010 It's clear to me which submission that stands on it's own as being committed to social progress and sustainability: Sparkseed. Not only does it have an innovative seed funding platform, it also is taking leaps within the non-profit sector by way of it's decision to take equity from ventures that get put in their portfolio, which, in a few years down the line will sever the need to rely on grants to operate and grow. Sustainable finance externally and internally = awesomely innovative. Vote Sparkseed!
