Nov. 20, 2012 /3BL Media/ - Black Friday and Cyber Monday kick off the official shopping season. This year #GivingTuesday will be the official kick off for the giving season.
The challenge is simple; commit to giving on Tuesday November 27, 2012. Then mobilize your friends, family and community to join the movement.
Dedicating specific days to holiday shopping has increased revenue for retailers. #GivingTuesday was initiated by a group of nonprofit and business leaders who wanted to create the same effect for cause action, but also to remind people of the true meaning behind the holiday season.
“Everyone can be a philanthropist,” said Aaron Sherinian, Vice President of Public Relations and Communications for the United Nations Foundation, one of the movement’s founding partners. “From the small issues that affect individual communities, to global issues, anyone can give.”
The mobile donation channel allows donors to take immediate action as a part of #GivingTuesday at a very busy time of year. In most cases, donors are only four clicks away from donating money, time or other resources to their favorite causes.
“#GivingTuesday is a brilliant initiative to bring people together to inspire all of us to keep alive the giving spirit that is the best part of the holiday season,” said Jenifer Snyder, executive director of The mGive Foundation. “Mobile is the unifier that increases this movement exponentially because it allows more people to become everyday philanthropists.”
“mGive is providing the infrastructure and our fail-safe procedures to process the mobile donations that will occur for #GivingTuesday,” said Snyder. “The #GivingTuesday creators inspired mGive to donate as well so we’re waiving our application and set-up fees for any nonprofit participating in this movement.”
“Mobile technology is at the heart of the biggest ways we can all help the world for the better, said Sherinian. “Mobile has changed the way people give, and puts philanthropy in the palm of their hands. That’s at the core of what #GivingTuesday is all about: to help people give more, better and smarter.” For information about #GivingTuesday please visit givingtuesday.org
