Martin Smith 1 October 2008 Costco maintain a hire P/E ratio vrs Walmart for a five year span in the early 2000s despite having paying nearly double per hour + healtcare for employees. Thats the kind of example that the Street will recognize as a real case study in why companies should pursue both social and environmental initiatives.

Martin Smith 30 September 2008 So many companies reneg on their social responsibility once the going gets tough. I am impressed by Jeff Swartz's commitment. It would be great if Timberland could really focus on ways to drive shareholder value through increased sales through this commitment. I think case studies on how companies stuck to their guns and drove long term ROI are needed to compel others to join the social responsibility bandwagon.
