I love getting to meet and learn from innovators from all walks of life. When people from diverse backgrounds — geographically, culturally, ethnically or professionally — come together to address social challenges, the results are awe-inspiring.
That’s what I love most about our AT&T Aspire Accelerator. We believe we found the most promising entrepreneurs from all over the country, with varied backgrounds, who offer solutions to problems they’ve personally seen or experienced in education.
For the past several months, AT&T has been collaborating with Imagination Foundation on our second-annual Inventor’s Challenge – bringing together young people from around the world to create innovative, imaginative and often totally viable solutions that solve problems in their schools and communities. Imagination Foundation and the AT&T Intellectual Property team of judges had the very challenging job of picking winners (one for each age category) from the thousands of applicants.

For most of the last century, the United States led the world in educational attainment and the economic and social mobility of its people. As our advantage has been slipping in recent decades, leaders from the President to philanthropists have set goals for boosting the percentage of Americans who complete some form of college, so more Americans are prepared for the rigors of the workplace and being engaged members of society.

Q: What early influences motivated you to become involved with Aspire?
A: My first job was as a teacher. I think most teachers have a passion for giving back. I am no exception. Clearly, that passion influenced my decision to take on the role of AT&T Aspire Mentoring Academy in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia (EMEA) Regional Champion.
