Pioneering ‘green’ architect and visionary William McDonough was honored last night at a private gala in San Francisco, CA.  McDonough is widely known for his seminal bookCradle to Cradle (co-written with Michael Braungart), which launched a revolution in the way we think about a products life cycle.  The book has inspired an entire generation to abandon the old ‘cradle to grave’ mentality in which products are thrown away at the end of their useful life.

This past weekend, the Community Environmental Council (CEC) threw the ‘greenest party of the year’ at the historic Armory building in downtown Santa Barbara.  The event, which attracts local environmental, business, innovation, and philanthropic leaders, is intended to help the CEC reach its annual fundraising goals so that the organization can continue its tireless mission of promoting environmental education and social change in the Santa Barbara region.

On Wednesday, August 8th, 2012, KEYT news reporter Sarah Bush stopped by Be Green Packaging Headquarters to find out what Santa Barbara’s sustainable packaging pioneers were up to five years after the company’s launch.  Co-founders Ron Blitzer and Robert Richman talk about their reasons for starting the business and some of the company’s impressive recent accomplishments.  Sarah also got a sneak peak of  new packaging the company has been working on as well as their collaborations with some of the worlds largest companies.

Be Green Donates Packaging to the 84th Annual Academy Awards

The Academy Awards has been taking major steps recently to reduce its carbon footprint and embrace sustainable products. This year, Be Green teamed up with the Academy by donating compostable and recyclable plates and clamshells in support of their mission to reduce the environmental impact of the awards.  The collaboration also served to raise awareness of existing green technologies that attendees may not have otherwise been aware.

The Santa Barbara Film Festival is increasingly becoming a major stop on the worldwide film festival circuit.  Every year the event expands in scope and attracts some of the planets finest talent to the so-called ‘American Riveria’, which is converted for a 10-day period into a star-studded frenzy– complete with top-name actors, actresses, directors, and film enthusiasts. For those living in Santa Barbara, the film festival has become the wintertime answer to the city’s infamous Summer Solstice parade.
