The Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan is the closest outline for a national energy policy that has yet been proposed by the federal government. The comprehensive Plan would reduce carbon pollution from existing power plants—the largest source of global warming in the U.S.—by thirty percent by 2030, from a 2005 baseline. The public comment period for the proposed standard closed on December 1st, and it closed with a bang. 223 companies signed on to support the Plan in a letter to the EPA, the Obama administration, and Senate and House majority and minority leaders.
