On July 27th more than 300 "Littles" mentored by the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay’s (BBBSMB) joined in the organization’s summer outing at Jamaica Plain’s Southwest Corridor Park. Thanks to the generosity of two shoe companies, the kids received a donation that represents the organization’s mission: to set their constituents on the right path in life.

The rain did not stop Deloitte on Friday from holding its annual community service day, which Deloitte calls IMPACT Day. Roughly 2,000 Deloitte employees in the firm's New England practice on Friday were encouraged to participate.

Nationally, 50,000 Deloitte employees were expected to be involved in 800 community projects in 80 communities.

The state Transportation Department's board voted unanimously Wednesday to approve plans for new commuter rail station in Brighton, which New Balance will pay to build and then operate for at least the first decade after the station opens.

The charitable foundation of the Newman’s Own food company has awarded a $50,000 grant to Community Servings, a Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts non-profit. The organization will use the funding to develop its “Family Nutrition Initiative,” interactive workshops for formerly homeless families around Boston who are transitioning to housing. The grant was made through the foundation’s nutrition-focused funding initiative that aims to support new and expanding programs.
