Bloomington, Illinois plant recertified by Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Voluntary Protection Program as Star participant
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (August 5, 2019) ― Bridgestone Americas, Inc. (Bridgestone) announced that its off-the-road (OTR) tire plant in Bloomington, Illinois was recently recertified for continued participation in the Illinois Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program as a Star participant. The program is part of the U.S. Department of Labor’s OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).

One of the biggest challenges facing today’s workforce is the technical skills gap, partly created by a lack of accessible education opportunities for young professionals. To combat this challenge, Bridgestone and Firestone Complete Auto Care in collaboration with United Way of Summit County and Akron Public Schools (APS) developed the Bridgestone Academy of Applied Engineering and Technology which brought a Firestone Complete Auto Care (FCAC) to East Community Learning Center (CLC) in October 2018.
Bridgestone has made steady progress in implementing its Global Sustainable Procurement Policy, which outlines the company’s path to achieving the ambitious goal of using only sustainable materials in all of its products by 2050.
Through its partnership with EcoVadis, a provider of sustainability, risk and performance ratings for global supply chains, the tire maker assesses suppliers’ current sustainability practices, and looks at what support is needed to improve on this.

Locally, the Nashville LGBT Chamber distributed its own letter that was signed by seven of its major corporate members, including Bridgestone Americas Inc., Dell Technologies, Salesforce.com Inc. and Postmates. AllianceBernstein, Curb Records and Warner Music Group also signed on to the chamber's letter, after previously speaking out individually on the bills. Joe Woolley, the chamber's CEO, said in an email that 20 small businesses have also endorsed the letter.
Since the 1970s, Bridgestone has owned and managed 6,000 acres east of Nashville, Tennessee. In June 2018, this land was donated to The Nature Conservancy. In addition to being an ideal and protected home for wildlife, the reserve also offsets the carbon emissions produced by Nashville's Bridgestone Tower.
