When we created the theme for this year’s BSR Conference—Be Bold—I’m not sure we realized how appropriate it would be. Yet, as I reviewed the results of our eighth annual BSR/GlobeScan State of Sustainable Business Survey 2016, the need for a recommitment to bold direction and bold action became quite apparent.

One year ago this month, the United Nations adopted a new group of 17 global goals – the Sustainable Development Goals. To say that the goals are ambitious is an understatement. Goals like “no poverty,” “zero-hunger,” “ensure inclusive and quality education for all,” and “take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts,” target some of the most significant challenges of our time.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which celebrate their first birthday this week, identify women’s advancement as a prerequisite to progress on the global sustainable development agenda and as central to achieving all 17 goals.
