As the severity and awareness of the climate crisis mounts, Climate Week NYC, held this year from September 23-29, is taking on a new sense of urgency. Founded in 2009, the summit takes place each year alongside the UN General Assembly, bringing together leaders from business, government, and nonprofit groups to spur global climate action.

Last week, leaders from around the world convened in New York for the United Nation’s Climate Summit. The goal was to gather consensus on how we double down on commitments and actions to curb carbon emissions globally. VMware participated, offering our point of view on the urgency of climate change, sharing the steps we’re taking, and collaborating with other leaders on bold actions. According to the U.N.’s report, as a society we need to shift 70-85 percent of electricity to renewable energy sources by 2050 to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.

At last week’s Climate Week in New York City, I participated in a unique panel discussion entitled: Can business help take back our climate to be fit for life again? And how? Held at the Flanders House, the cross-sector panel was organized by CO2logic, Connect4Climate, The General Delegation of the Government of Flanders to the U.S.A., IFC (World Bank Group), and the New York City chapter of the International Society of Sustainability Professionals.
