The disconnect between global food production and hunger has never been larger. While 800 million people go hungry every day, according to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization, as much as one-third of all the food produced in the world goes to waste, That’s according to a new report by the Waste and Resources Action Program. The report also puts figures on the amount and cost of this inefficiency. It estimates that 60 metric tons of food is wasted annually in the U.S., valued at $162 billion.
