The evening before the 9th Sustainability Dialog in Stuttgart kicked off with open, helpful, but also controversial discussions. "If we plan to meet the Paris climate goals, traffic must become cleaner", guest speaker Peter Bakker from the World Business Council for Sustainable Development explained to the audience. It was already the 9th occasion that Daimler employees exchanged ideas with representatives from politics, science, and society on subjects including urban mobility, climate protection, digitalization, and human rights.

Daimler Is Building the Future

Construction of Daimler's second battery factory is starting in Kamenz, Saxony. With investments of around 500 million Euro, one of the most state-of-the art and biggest battery factories in Europe is being erected at the Daimler's ACCUMOTIVE subsidiary.

In future, Kamenz will be further developed into a competence center for battery production. From the middle of 2018, the factory will make the lithium ion batteries for all electrified vehicles of Mercedes-Benz and smart, ranging from the plug-in hybrid to the all-electric models. In addition, the Kamenz factory will also produce batteries for the stationary Mercedes-Benz energy storage unit as well as for 48-volt systems. The number of employees at the site will also be gradually increased in the coming years and will even be more than doubled until the end of the decade.
