On Monday, August 6, Together for Safer Roads (TSR) had the honor of ringing the Nasdaq closing bell alongside many of its member companies, including Republic Services. TSR is a coalition of global private sector companies working to improve worldwide road safety through initiatives, ideas and innovation. Republic is the only recycling and waste services provider associated with the coalition, and is actively working with the coalition and its member companies to achieve a shared mission of fewer road traffic collisions, deaths and injuries worldwide.
Due to the nature of our industry, we prioritize safety above all else. An exemplary safety track record helps ensure that every employee returns home at the end of the day. It also helps us attract the best drivers and improves relationships with the communities we serve, while reducing costs.

Erb Institute, faculty member, Tom Lyon along with A. Wren Montgomery and Kimberly S. Wolske, have recently completed research which considers differences between Millennial’s perceptions of automotive ownership versus prior generations and whether Millennials are exhibiting significantly different driving behaviors and attitudes. Interestingly, “changing emotional connections to and meanings around driving and ownership, and utility perceptions around vehicles” may be indicative of a general lack of interest by this generation, or more simply, ‘meh’.
