National program part of Smithfield’s ongoing commitment to end hunger
SMITHFIELD, Va., Jan. 22, 2018 /3BL Media/ – Last week, Smithfield Foods, Inc. launched its 2018 giving tour in celebration of the 10-year anniversary of the company’s signature hunger-relief program, Helping Hungry Homes®. Founded in 2008, Helping Hungry Homes® is a company-wide initiative focused on alleviating hunger and helping Americans become more food secure.
BENTON HARBOR — Hundreds of vehicles sat Thursday along the streets of downtown Benton Harbor, all angled toward a bustling warehouse that was packed with food.
It marked the third year that the Southwest Michigan Community Action Agency held its Holiday Food Sharing Program in Benton Harbor. The program collects and distributes more than 400 turkeys and food boxes to residents and families in need of help from the Twin Cities and surrounding Berrien County communities.
Albertsons employees and customers worked together to raise funds this month to help solve hunger in Idaho, and on Thursday, Albertsons came to The Idaho Foodbank with a truck filled with 2,616 full turkey dinners for the families who need them most.
“Albertsons is committed to our longstanding partnership and support for the Idaho Foodbank to provide hunger relief to those in need,” said John Colgrove, Albertsons Companies Intermountain Division President. “I have seen first-hand the Foodbank’s dedication to helping people who struggle with hunger every day.”
Hunger in America is a striking epidemic. According to the USDA Economic Research Service and Feeding America, one in every six people face hunger in our country. A shocking 20.6 percent of households with children are food insecure.
$70,000 will be donated from the Small Change, Big Effect campaign to Feeding America

The “Small Change, Big Effect” 30-day fundraising campaign launched on August 3, 2017 with an event at Samsung 837 in New York City.
