That’s the stand taken by Albertsons Companies’ Nourishing Neighbors community relief fund, which throughout September will enable customers to donate money to help provide millions of healthy breakfasts for children in the communities they serve.

Our food systems are broken. Global food systems face mounting challenges that are testing our ability to feed the world sustainably and adequately support economic and social development within planetary boundaries.
Increasing demand, climate change, water stress, soil degradation and shifting diets are just some of the threats facing global food security. Our current way of feeding the world is a leading cause of environmental and health crises, and it bears risks for national security, health systems, government budgets and economic growth.
Back in 2013, I joined the Alliance to End Hunger after a decade as a corporate lobbyist. As with any major life change, this one had implications on our family routines. One night over dinner, my husband and I talked about my new job with our children — then 8- and 6-years old. That evening at bedtime, my daughter, Sarah, said thoughtfully, “But Mommy, if you end hunger you won’t have a job anymore.” My response to her was “And wouldn’t that be wonderful.”

Homer, Mich., Nov. 26, 2013 /3BL Media/ – PS Food Mart locations across south-central Michigan and Toledo, Ohio encouraged employees, customers and neighbors to support families in need through the recent Pop-Tarts® fundraising campaign. During the month of October, 31 locations donated 70,000 Pop-Tarts to local food pantries chosen by the store manager of each participating location.
