It started with Colonel James Findlay, who built a road and stockade in the area to transport and shelter his troops during the War of 1812. This stockade was later named Fort Findlay in his honor, with the town of the same name sprouting up after the war. Decades later, the town of Findlay was a stop for slaves traveling along the Underground Railroad. From the 1880s until the early 20th century, the area was a booming center of oil and gas production.

For that reason, appliance manufacturer Whirlpool Corporation is pushing ahead with wind energy expansion as part of its efforts to decrease its carbon footprint in a bid to make its business increasingly sustainable as well as more socially responsible.
Last June Whirlpool Corporation broke ground on a wind farm near our Findlay, Ohio dishwasher plant and today it is fully operational. Through clean, renewable energy the turbines are expected to offset more than 20% of our on-site electricity consumption.

On March 27, 2013, the Whirlpool Corporation Findlay Division held a ground breaking ceremony as the start of what will be a Habitat for Humanity home. The house will become the home for Ashley Reinhart and her children, Cameron and Isabella.
Construction on the home will begin on May 17 with a foundation preparation day. Then, the home will be built from June 1-14. This will be the fourth Habitat for Humanity home built by the Findlay Division, all on land donated by Whirlpool Corporation.
