77 Receive Scholarships From Chile's Minera El Abra Indigenous Scholarship Program

Chile’s Minera El Abra recently awarded 77 scholarships through its Indigenous Scholarship Program that funds university students and technical professionals from Indigenous communities in the Province of El Loa.

The program has provided scholarships for more than 600 students since its inception in 2003, providing tuition, books, and other required materials.

PT Freeport Indonesia Repatriated 167 Turtles to Native Habitat

PT Freeport Indonesia’s Environmental Department helped return to the wild 167 native pig-snouted turtles from the West Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA).

The pig-snouted turtles, or Carettochelys insculpta, are a protected species and were confiscated by the BKSDA as trafficked wildlife. The turtles were inspected for health conditions and were kept in quarantine by the PT Freeport Indonesia Environmental Department prior to release into their original habitat. Fauna endemic to Papua is continuously and consistently monitored and protected.

Freeport ranked 61st overall and fifth in the Minerals Industry category. This is the 10th time the company has made the list since 2007. Freeport most recently made the top 100 in 2019.
