Vetting and Managing the Charities in Your Employee Giving Campaign Requires More Than Great Technology

“When my employees choose to donate to a charity, how do I know that charity is legitimate?”

“How do I know the funds actually get to my employees’ designated charities?”

Those are among the most popular questions we get from employers who approach us about partnering on their employee giving programs.

Together We March for Meals

On March 22, 1972, President Richard Nixon signed into law a measure that amended the Older Americans Act of 1965 and established a national nutrition program for seniors 60 years and older. For more than 45 years, these critical programs – commonly referred to as Meals on Wheels – have delivered more than just nutritious meals to homebound seniors in virtually every community across the country.

Behind the Scenes of the New Jersey Employees Charitable Campaign (NJECC) With Susan O'Brien

A lot of work goes into planning and running a workplace giving campaign like the New Jersey Employees Charitable Campaign (NJECC). With 15 years' experience running the NJECC, Susan O'Brien, NJECC Campaign Manager, knows this all too well! Serving as liaison to over 120 state and local agencies, Susan coordinates the State's employee fundraising campaign from start to finish and is responsible for monitoring the campaigns financial progress and success each year.

Is all that work worth it? Yes!

The Real-World Impact of Employee Giving Programs

We all want to make a difference in our communities, and the wider world around us. We see daily evidence of the real and insidious problems that we face as a society. Hunger. Poverty. Homelessness. Civil rights violations and abuses. Health crises. Ever-diminishing natural resources. This can be a very depressing list so I won’t make it exhaustive. Yet in the face of this much turmoil, when I think of problems our society faces, I’m not disheartened. In fact, I am hopeful.

Thanks to legislation that created the New Jersey Employees Charitable Campaign (NJECC) in 1985, employees of state agencies, universities, county government, municipalities and school districts throughout New Jersey enjoy the benefit of giving to many of their favorite charities through an annual workplace giving campaign which features the convenience of payroll deduction. This drive supports the work of approved charitable agencies and organizations, with approximately 1,000 charities participating each year.

March Women's History Month: Celebrating Women's Achievements and Continuing to Fight for Women's Rights

On March 8, #InternationalWomensDay, and throughout the month of March, Americans will celebrate the many achievements of women throughout history in art, athletics, business, government, philanthropy, humanities, science, and education.  Women have contributed a lot to society, and we have made great strides in reducing the gender equity gap. However, we still have some barriers to overcome to ensure equal economic opportunities, educational equity, women’s health, and an end to gender-based violence.
