“Connected Roads” Lane Markings on The Ray to Improve Driver Safety & Facilitate Safe Testing of Self-Driving Vehicles

The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT), 3M and The Ray announced that all lanes of the 13 miles of Interstate 85, from the Georgia-Alabama border to Exit 13-LaGrange, are now marked with 3M’s Connected Roads All Weather Elements striping technology. This announcement follows the recent repaving of that interstate stretch, now known as The Ray, which has become a national proving ground for transportation technology and innovation. The goal is to create a safe ecosystem, on a public interstate, that can accommodate advanced vehicle testing.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) State Transportation Board yesterday passed a resolution endorsing a project of The Ray C. Anderson Foundation, The Ray, to re-imagine our highway system into one that is safer and more sustainable.

The Ray, officially known as the Ray C. Anderson Memorial Highway, is an 18-mile corridor on Interstate 85 that connects exits 1 and 18 – from West Point, Ga., to LaGrange Ga.
