One of the greatest joys in recruiting is the feeling of making an impact in someone’s life by providing them with a great career. In my opinion, that same feeling of pride and impact is doubled when that new hire is a military veteran. At HP, we’ve made it a company-wide initiative to work harder at hiring veterans.
Since launching a dedicated, focused effort in attracting and hiring military veterans this time last year we have experienced great strides! We’ve accomplished a number of tremendous things in a short time and continue to drive forward to hire military veterans.
Since 1987 when we began recycling hardware, HP has recovered over 2.3 billion pounds of products for reuse and recycling. HP helps extend the life of IT hardware through our remanufacturing programs, reducing environmental impacts and making IT equipment accessible to more people. We recycle products that are no longer suitable for reuse.
Like many of you, I spent much of my adult life on active duty, and still have a special place in my heart for members of our military. This Memorial Day, and each and every day, we pay tribute to all the active duty service members, the veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice.
HP operates in more than 170 countries. We have long been a leader in global citizenship – it has been one of our seven corporate objectives since 1957. We fully embrace our social and environmental responsibilities, and we are committed to conducting our business in ways that positively impact society and the planet. Our Global Citizenship program covers a broad agenda, including governance, environment, and society.
During the coming decade, we intend to continue to focus on:
The potential for private sector engagement with the world’s most pressing global health issues is vast, and the impact of well-targeted corporate initiatives is growing rapidly. Today’s outstanding programs were showcased at the Roosevelt Hotel, New York City in Business Action on Health Awards at this year’s Global Business Coalition Health Conference (15-17 May).
