This is part of a series for Women’s History Month where female students met with women who work at Duke Energy to tour each employee’s workplace and learn about careers in the energy industry. By showing the girls careers they were unaware of, we hope to inspire them to cast aside gender roles and set their own path.
As a women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), I love the way you can work in a lab or sit in a small pilot plant but work on something that has a ripple effect so big it goes out to affect a lot of people. A scientific or technical breakthrough can create a better future for people… how’s that for a nice sense of purpose?
With over 13 years of experience at Gildan and over 7 positions later, Ilca is a fighter who has always been up for the next challenge. Here is the story of a woman who has always said “yes” to the unknown and never been afraid to speak her mind.
Q: Can you tell us about your career journey at Gildan?
From dreams to reality, Idalia shares her Gildan story that started over 20 years ago when she was only in college.
Q: Tell us about your career journey:
I’ve been with Gildan from the start of my career, it’s the only company I’ve worked for and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
When I was in college, I used to drive by the Gildan facility and think to myself, 'one day, I’m going to work there!' Little did I know that shortly after that, I’d get an interview and start my journey at Gildan. That was 20 years ago!
