What?! You think I’m lazy!?!?!?

Okay, maybe a little bit. But really, I’m taking this week off from writing because I just happened to stumble upon a video that connected too perfectly to my last post. Remember when I said that tossing out a single strawberry wastes about a half-gallon of water? Well, the folks at savethefood.com decided to create a two-minute film showing you the full life of that wasted strawberry.

The Water We Eat

Blog

I expect most of us believe that the greatest amount of water we consume comes in the form of showers, baths, and drinks. Nope, and it’s not close.

My Dad has always loved the water. He grew up in Miami, which probably has something to do with his attraction to it. Whether skiing, fishing, or boating, any time he is on the water he is happy.

Boy!

For those of you who read last week, that was the answer to our question. We are so very excited, and we are grateful that our baby is looking good and healthy on the ultrasound.

Now, on to this week’s post. Growing up, I had the inestimable blessing of a Southern mother who made dinner for the family most nights. This meant that I ate well. Mom, I didn’t say this enough back then, but thank you!

The Poetry of a Campfire

Blog

Carbon is not our enemy. It is the basis of life, working in tandem with the water and oxygen with which we are abundantly blessed to fashion all of the beauty of nature.

Let’s nerd out. Or at least I will. You don’t have to; you can just stop reading. Your call.

Why, you ask? Because I’m fascinated by the first law of thermodynamics. And by campfires (I’m currently sitting next to one). Campfires are basically the embodiment of the first law of thermodynamics.

An Unrealistic Hypothetical

Blog

This is why it’s so important that we increase fuel efficiency in our vehicles. Driving-as-usual is horribly wasteful. It’s harmful to our environment and it forces us to spend money on things we don’t really care about.

Reflections on Laudato Si - Concluded

Blog

“Never before has the world had a document that so eloquently unites ethics and environmental stewardship. That is why Laudato Si was the most significant environmental event of 2015.”

“Show your work.”

Does that bring you back to your high school math class in a hurry? That phrase was a near-daily refrain in mine. It didn’t matter if you intuitively, or by sheer luck, got a math problem right. You also had to offer a proof as well. You had to back it up.

Adieu, December. Gone are the carols and candy. So too are the tinsel and trees. We will miss you, presents and peppermint everything. Good news, pumpkin everything is only 9 months away.
