Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star outfielder, Andrew McCutchen, has become the face of the Pirates franchise over the course of his nine big league seasons.

‘Cutch’ took home the 2013 National League Most Valuable Player honors and has been elected to the NL All-Star team five times in his career, however, perhaps the most significant accolade he has received is the 2015 Roberto Clemente Award. The award, which shows a player’s sportsmanship, community involvement and contributions to his respective team, is voted on by the fans and members of the media.

Like fellow recipients of a Michael Weiner Scholarship for Labor Studies, Melissa Britton understands and appreciates the close relationship between worker rights and civil rights that defines organized labor’s important role in advancing social justice.

“I have a strong passion for labor, employment, and civil rights law, and I am dedicated to working towards social justice,” Britton said.  She is one of five recipients of a 2017 Michael Weiner Scholarship for Labor Studies recently announced by the Major League Baseball Players Trust.

Tonight on MLB Network (8-9:30 PM ET) the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) will announce the winners of its 25th annual presentation of the Players Choice Awards.  The awards program will be presented by MLB The Show™ and sponsored by Majestic Athletic.

The Players Choice Awards, in which the players themselves recognize excellence on and off the field, have been presented by the MLBPA, since 1992, when Major Leaguers selected Dennis Eckersley and Barry Bonds as the AL and NL Outstanding Players, respectively.

Holland America Line President Orlando Ashford presented a check for $25,000 to Seattle Children’s Hospital’s Uncompensated Care Fund Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at the Seattle Mariners’ home game at Safeco Field.
