Employees assemble and distribute storm kits to 4,000 seniors
Duke Energy recently joined with local community groups to assemble and distribute storm preparedness kits to about 4,000 seniors, some of Florida’s most vulnerable residents. The program expanded across the state after a 2018 pilot in Pinellas County that reached 1,000 homebound seniors in the Meals on Wheels program.
Older Americans Month, which was originally called "Senior Citizens Month" and takes place in May each year, was designated in 1963 by President John F. Kennedy and the National Council of Senior Citizens as a time to pay tribute to the contributions of past and current older persons to our country.
April 3rd marked the end of the 2018 Subaru Share the Love event, raising a total of $27.5 million for national and local charities. Over the last 11 years, through the Share the Love Event, Subaru of America and its retailers have donated more than $145.7 million to national charities and over 1,170 hometown charities.
On March 22, 1972, President Richard Nixon signed into law a measure that amended the Older Americans Act of 1965 and established a national nutrition program for seniors 60 years and older. For more than 45 years, these critical programs – commonly referred to as Meals on Wheels – have delivered more than just nutritious meals to homebound seniors in virtually every community across the country.
We’re at the heart of food and service -- and our community -- as Sysco Gives Back Weeks continues! Our volunteers and their families helped Catholic Charities distribute 17,000 lbs. of food to 200+ families on Saturday. Our volunteers were also out in force with the Houston Food Bank’s Spring Branch and Katy Mobile Food Pantries, Blessings in a Backpack and Meals on Wheels, where we spent another worthwhile afternoon assembling breakfast packs for seniors citizens. Making a difference matters!
Through the 2018 Subaru Share the Love® Event, from November 15, 2018, to January 2, 2019, Subaru of America will donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased to the customer's choice of the four national charities, including Meals on Wheels, with a minimum guarantee of $250,000. In addition to these partners, local Subaru retailers have selected hundreds of hometown charities for their customers to support as well.
