Back in September we launched the Elevate America community initiative, a new grant program to support nonprofit organizations offering employment services, including technology skills training and job placement, in local communities across the United States. We had an incredible response with over 300 nonprofits applying for grants through our request for proposal process.

On January 12, 2010, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck near the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince. Microsoft activated its Disaster Response Team to support response efforts and with its nonprofit partner NetHope, was able to establish a telecommunications infrastructure to allow humanitarian agencies to communicate and provide relief to the affected victims.

The Imagine Cup is Microsoft’s annual student technology competition that asks students from around the world to combine their creativity and passion for technology to help solve the toughest problems.  Personally, it’s one of my favorite events that Microsoft puts on for students.
