Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who once said, “Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve.” MLK Day is a federal holiday dedicated to service, honoring MLK’s commitment to addressing the deep inequities that existed – and still exist – within our society.

“I remember when I was hired by the Memphis Department of Public Works on April 15, 1967,” recalls Rev. Cleophus Smith. “This particular morning, it was cold. I’m talkin’ about cold, cold. We didn’t have sufficient gloves, clothes, nor did we have water to drink on the job.”
Volunteers spend a "day on" enhancing Warren G. Harding Middle School in Philadelphia
Aramark employees, families and friends this week honored the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In Philadelphia, dozens of volunteers joined in a day of service at Warren G. Harding Middle School. The group helped revitalize the girls’ cafeteria, painting inspirational murals, sports logos and vibrant designs to create a more welcoming space for the students it serves.
Republic Services general manager Keith Hester was recognized with the Outstanding Community Service Award on Friday, January 15 at the Fresno MLK Ceremony. Along with the award, Republic was also presented an award for Service to the Community. Accompanying the awards were certificates from Congressman Jim Costa, Senator Andy Vidak and Fresno City Councilmember Clint Olivier. Keith was joined by his wife Trish and several of his staff and their families to receive the award. Republic congratulates Keith and the local team in northern California for this accomplishment.
