It is clear from George Floyd’s death - and the many that preceded it - that systematic injustice and racism still exist. You can see the difference in treatment in our criminal justice system… our schools… our healthcare system… and beyond.

We come to this moment in our history, humbly, fully realizing there are no easy solutions. But we also come with an unwavering commitment to find answers to the question of our time: where do we go from here?

Each Friday, Hannah Marmorine, 30, of Maple Grove, logs off work early to go pack bags of meals for students in need at the Sheridan Story in Roseville, a nonprofit she’d helped with before.

“I’ve found a lot of joy in volunteering during this time,” Marmorine said.

What happens when more than 300 business people descend, virtually, on Capitol Hill to advocate for climate action amid a pandemic and economic crisis?

Logic would dictate that these well-intentioned lobbyists-for-a-day would be met with a resounding shrug. After all, with two of the most devastating events to hit the United States happening simultaneously, there doesn’t seem to be much room to talk about anything else.

As with so many other things these days, logic is not always the best guide.

A program we’re calling “manufacture to donate” works just like it sounds.

Several of our plants are now making food, boxing it up, and sending it straight to Feeding America. The organization is providing it to its network of 200 member food banks, food pantries and meal programs.

It’s another way we’re addressing the urgent need for hunger relief during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Helping Meet a Massive Hunger Need

“Never seen anything like it.”

“It’s a wave of need.”

“A perfect storm.”

Those are the words of some of the people who work for food banks around the world, in media reports in recent days, about the surge in demand for food due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Job losses and school closures are largely to blame due to stay-at-home orders, as well as health concerns.
