Hurricane Florence is causing vast devastation in the U.S. South East and Mid-Atlantic regions of North and South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia and Maryland. Xylem joined forces with iHeart Radio to donate water to support disaster relief efforts. Nine employees in Atlanta, GA spent two days collecting, loading, and delivering cases of water to those affected by Florence. Xylem encouraged customers and channel partners to support the drive, by either donating items or volunteering, which spanned from Monday, September 17 to Tuesday, September 18.
Xylem Watermark was involved in the immediate response in asking how they could help the people of Lombok after the devastation of the recent earthquakes that left the island devastated. Three AquaTowers were deployed with their support – bringing thousands of people access to clean, safe water. Thousands of families were evacuated to hillside camps after their homes were destroyed, living in tents without electricity or running water that are shared with many other families.
Last month, Xylem partnered with Manchester City Football Team to work together in solving water. At one event, Xylem volunteers, along with coaches and players from Manchester City Football Club and the New York City Football Club, teamed up to support New York City’s city-wide efforts to promote youth soccer programs in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. Almost 100 children between the ages of 7-13 enjoyed soccer training from professional coaches and participated in a water conservation program, which highlighted the importance of water conservation.

Last month, a group of six Xylem Watermark volunteers from the Xylem Madrid site participated in a unique activity for the Watermark program, scuba diving into the marine depths and cleaning the seabed of la Ria de Pontevedra-Arosa along the coast of northern Spain.
Thanks to Xylem Watermark, five rural schools in Siem Reap Province of Cambodia now have clean water access for the first time. Over the course of five days in June, AquaTowers and hygiene education were provided to primary and secondary schools that, before now, only had access to untreated, contaminated well water, causing many to suffer from waterborne illnesses. After school hours, the doors will open for the community members to access the clean water, which means that over 5,000 people will benefit from the AquaTowers. The team from Xylem Watermark in Morton Grove, IL has been hard at work in their local community. Twenty-five Watermark volunteers recently helped clean up a section of Lincoln Creek, which carries water away from Downtown Milwaukee. While doing so, they helped monitor water quality and shared their data as part of the EarthEcho Water Challenge. In addition to 30 garbage bags of trash, the team also removed an automobile bumper and two shopping carts, highlighting the importance of keeping our waterways clean.
Employee volunteers from Xylem, Inc. have been instrumental in helping Houston Habitat for Humanity respond to Hurricane Harvey. In total, 100 Xylem volunteers have contributed over 300 hours of their time doing everything from raising the walls for the house, making sure the roof is in place, and even laying down shingling at the end of the project. This support helped Houston Habitat for Humanity finish two full houses while advancing others to later stages of the build cycle.
