Collins’ Leadership Showcased at Greenbuild with SCS Global Services and the Forest Stewardship Council®
CHICAGO, November 14, 2018/3BL Media/ - Collins, a forest management and wood products company operating in California, Oregon and Pennsylvania, is pleased to celebrate 25 years of responsible forest management recognition, including independent certification under the internationally recognized Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) program. Third-party certifier SCS Global Services (SCS) and FSC paid tribute to Collins’ precedent-setting efforts at Greenbuild 2018, the U.S.’ largest green building event of the year.
Responsible manufacturing begins with responsible sourcing. For the wood products industry, it is paramount that our natural resources are used wisely. In the US, a strong legal framework has shaped and upheld responsible forestry practices for generations. The Clean Water Act first established the requirement for best management practices (BMPs) in the 1970s. Forestry BMPs have been evaluated, tested, revised, and adapted over time by each state. Third-party certification standards have led to additional improvements and provide a scalable assurance mechanism for stakeholders.
You’ve heard about ecosystems: the way all living things in a given area interact with each other and their environment. There’s a similar concept in sustainability called “industrial ecology,” which is the notion that industrial processes benefit from mimicking the closed-loop efficiency, or circular economy, of a natural ecosystem.
You’ve probably seen kids, hobbyists and amateur photographers using drone technology for fun, but drone solutions have a great deal more potential than an afternoon’s worth of entertainment. These small, unmanned aerial vehicles are useful for a wide range of applications, from logistics to manufacturing.
Our forestry team recently returned from the 2017 Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) General Assembly (GA), which took place this year from October 8-13 in Vancouver, Canada. It was an exciting gathering, attended by more than 700 FSC international members, including forestry companies, NGOs, a wide diversity of wood-based product manufacturers, and more. Moreover, it was the FSC’s first North American-held General Assembly since 1993, a treat for those of us headquartered on this side of the pond.
