More than two decades ago, just before Christmas, someone stole all the toys being kept in a South Bay Salvation Army warehouse. After learning of the break-in, a Honda executive in Torrance decided to try to rectify the situation. Honda would organize a holiday party at a hotel and allow the Salvation Army to invite needy people from the community.
As the world watches the tragic aftermath of Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda), all of us at FedEx share in the grief as we see the extent of the destruction. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, survivors, loved ones and first responders affected by this storm.

Verizon has committed $100,000 in grants to disaster relief in the area, and the Verizon Foundation will provide a 1-to-1 match of employee online donations (from $25 up to $1,000 per employee) to the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
The Avista Foundation and the employees of Avista Utilities have received the “Making Spokane Better” award from the Salvation Army, in recognition of their philanthropy and volunteerism. Donations from Avista Corp. and the Avista Foundation to non-profits totaled more than $1.4 million in 2011.
