Every year, 9 million tons of plastic waste ends up in the world’s oceans and could remain in marine environments for more than 450 years. This escalating problem deserves our attention, and today National Geographic is kicking off a multiyear initiative to reduce the impact of single-use plastics on our oceans.
A significant new player is now entering the mix of the growing number of organizations providing institutional investors with ESG rankings and data. Our pulp and paper products are derived from renewable resources, made with high levels of renewable energy, and are designed to be reused or recycled. While it is difficult to identify a more sustainable industry than forest products, not all companies perform equally when it comes to operating safely and sustainably. There’s no way around it: researching and manufacturing life-saving medicines and vaccines produces waste. At GSK, we are changing our manufacturing processes to cut in half the amount of operational waste we generate by 2020, and shifting our perceptions to see waste as a potential resource.
