Social Accountability Accreditation Services (SAAS) is an independent agency overseeing workplace audits about social issues. It accredits and monitors third party certifiers operating certification programs to social standards, including the Social Accountability 8000 standard for ethical working conditions. In 1997, SAAS began work as a department of Social Accountability 8000 standard (SA8000®); it was established as an independent not-for-profit organization in 2007.

This new program for measuring and improving social performance is already in use by 250 companies

Social Accountability International's (SAI) Social Fingerprint® Program is being used by companies in over 20 countries to measure their social performance now, and then learn how to improve it. Participating companies, primarily suppliers to multi-national brands and retailers, have engaged in this program of ratings, training and toolkits.

The World Environment Center and SGM Wuling Launch Cleaner Production Partnership to Improve Competitiveness and Performance

Drop a pebble in a pond and you will see a number of concentric waves radiating from the point of entry.  Wait a few seconds and those same perfect circles become distorted, blurred, and eventually disappear. In business, particularly in the supply chain, this same pattern is demonstrated as information filters down the supply chain.  As information travels away from its source, growing uncertainty and risk often results in a returning product misaligned with expectations.
