Whirlpool Corporation is the number one major appliance manufacturer in the world. In their Ohio plant, they had more than 20 million pounds of corrugated cardboard waste, and are anticipating saving more than $1 million over the next three years. The passion around sustainability is being able to see the impact and being able to go home and tell your children what you do.
The journey to sustainability is a long and winding road with many hurdles along the way. When four sustainability goals were reaffirmed in 2014, Whirlpool Corporation set out on a path to improve its environmental impact and set attainable goals for long-term success. Now, through a combination of accelerated projects and acquisition synergies, the company has managed to reach two of those targets three years early.
Dwight Blackledge served as a field artillery officer in the U.S. Army for more than five years. Today, he puts that military experience to good use in his job as global information systems project manager at appliance manufacturer Whirlpool Corporation.

We at the Habitat of Cleveland location are celebrating the years-long relationship that our organization has held with Whirlpool Corporation. It’s sometimes hard to put into words how the two entities could provide a true sense of hope for so many, but hope hardly describes the “good” they do for families the world over.

BENTON TOWNSHIP — When Navya Radhakrishnan agreed to an internship at Whirlpool Corp., she never imagined using a hammer and nails.
However, the 28-year-old who spent her summer in the appliance maker’s finance leadership program did just that on a Friday afternoon, where she helped build a wall for a Harbor Habitat for Humanity house in Benton Township.
James Brown famously sang, “This is a man’s world.” However, perhaps the most notable part of that chorus and song is the second verse: “…But it wouldn’t be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl.”
