Nespresso Revives Zimbabwe’s Coffee Production

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, September 7, 2018 /3BL Media/ – Nespresso announced today a long-term investment plan to revive Zimbabwe’s coffee industry and stimulate the rural economy.

The company will provide training and technical assistance to 400 smallholder coffee farmers over the next five years, with the goal of increasing the country’s production of quality sustainable coffee.

An Enactus team in Zimbabwe saw a way to melt plastic and create diesel fuel as a byproduct. So far, 12 women have worked to convert over 3 tons of waste. Just 35 kg of plastic translates to 24 liters of liquid fuel and 7 kg of wax. In the week of June 17, 2013, SAI convened a 'training of trainers' (ToT) and multi-stakeholder advisory consultation (MAC) in Harare, Zimbabwe with the Danish Institute for Human Rights and the Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association (ZELA) for its joint Pillars in Practice Program.

Summary: 

The Pillars in Practice (PiP) Program of Social Accountability International (SAI) and the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) works to build the capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs) in Bangladesh, Nicaragua and Zimbabwe, to engage with and train on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (GPs). The program aims to activate a strategic alliance by establishing the training capacity of CSO partners in each of the three countries to sustainably promote and assist in the implementation of the GPs by local and multi-national companies, government agencies and other local CSOs.

Cotton Made in Africa Works With Smallholder Farmers in Zimbabwe

Cotton initiative expands activities in Southeast Africa

(Hamburg/Harare 21 November 2012) -  The Cotton made in Africa (CmiA) Initiative will begin working with around 30,000 smallholder farmers in Zimbabwe starting with the cotton harvest 2012/13. The objective here, as in the other six project countries, is to improve the famers’ living conditions. Zimbabwe ranked 173rd of 187 countries on the United Nation’s 2011 Human Development Index, making it one of the least developed nations in the world.
