About Company
The Kansas City Southern Railway (NYSE: KSU), owned by Kansas City Southern Industries, is the smallest and second-oldest Class I railroad company still in operation. KCS was founded in 1887 and is currently operating in a region consisting of ten central U.S. states. KCS also owns and indirectly operates Kansas City Southern de México (KCSM) in the central and northeastern states of México, and is the only Class I Railroad to own any track both inside and outside of Mexico's boundaries. KCS owns a total of approximately 6000 route miles of track.
Kansas City Southern is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri. The Company focuses on the north/south freight corridor connecting commercial and industrial markets in the central United States with many industrial cities in Mexico. The Company is engaged primarily in the freight rail transportation business. It generates revenues by providing its customers with freight delivery services both within its regions, and throughout North America through connections with other Class I rail carriers. KCS’ customers conduct business in a number of different industries, including electric-generating utilities, chemical and petroleum products, paper and forest products, agriculture and mineral products, automotive products and intermodal transportation.
On March 3, 2010, the Company acquired an intermodal facility in Mexico.
