Justmeans Insights™ Sustainable Performance Rankings Methodology
Industry Sustainable Performance Rankings are powered by the SmartView® 360 platform, the proprietary force ranking methodology provided by CRD Analytics.
Data Sourcing:
Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) data is pulled from current and historical reports, published directly in each company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report. Justmeans does not accept information that is not publicly disclosed as part of our analysis.
Companies are given the ability to access their information in our database at anytime, make changes, and encouraged to continuously update their sustainability profile. Data changes that are not accompanied by a publicly disclosed source document will be considered invalid.
Justmeans uses the same metric units standardized by The Global Reporting Initiative GRI Guidelines. Companies that use measuring units outside the scope of the guidelines must convert the data to these standardized units before entering the data into the database. All monetary values are in US dollars unless otherwise specified.
The SmartView® 360 Force Ranking Methodology:
Force-ranking is the simultaneous ranking of multiple numeric variables that can be either equally weighted or disproportionately weighted.
To qualify, a company must be publicly traded on a major global exchange, have a minimum market capitalization of $1 Billion USD as of December 31st of the most recent calendar year and must have published a publicly available sustainability or corporate social responsibility (CSR) report with full year environmental, social, governance (ESG) data for their fiscal year.
Companies that meet the criteria are force-ranked by total ESG Score calculated as the average of three performance dimension scores: environmental, social and governance. Each dimension consists of five key performance indicators with a total of 175 underlying quantitative and qualitative performance metrics that are either numeric or Boolean (Yes/No).
ESG Dimensions are divided into 5 Key Performance Indicators as follows:
- Environmental Performance Indicators (EPIs): Waste, Energy, Water, Emissions, Risk Mitigation
- Social Performance Indicators (SPIs): Product Responsibility, Community, Human Rights, Diversity & Opportunity, Employment Quality
- Governance Performance Indicators (GPIs): Board Functions, Board Structure, Compensation, Vision & Strategy, Shareholder Rights
In the event of a ranking tie, the company with the higher total environmental score receives the higher rank. All derived values, scores and ranks were provided by CRD Analytics and powered by SmartView® 360 Platform.The underlying data was aided by information provided by the research team at Justmeans, from public sources such as sustainability reports, company websites and government filings.
