We've all heard about the "ecological footprint" quiz, but now it has been totally revised. The new quiz, made available by the Center for Sustainable Economy, reflects more recent findings in ecological science.

The newest Ecological Footprint Quiz uses national averages for energy consumption, and offers a rough approximation of how heavily or lightly you live on the Earth. Your carbon footprint can be thought of as the amount of land and ocean area required to absorb all the carbon emissions associated with your use of energy for home and transportation activities....

Although some have expired, a great many government tax incentives, credits and other financial rewards are still available for homeowners who wish to install some form of green energy system in their principal residence.*

These incentives are intended both to stimulate economic activity and reflect society's growing recognition of the potential dangers and problems caused by global climate change, dependence on foreign oil supplies, and other impending changes in our energy economy. All-electric buses are coming to a bus stop near you -- or at least, nearer than ever before.

China has led the way in electric bus utilization for many years, but now bus companies in the U.S. are testing and accepting a variety of all-electric transit vehicles. The relatively sleek, smooth buses offer the potential to save vast sums of operating expenses over the typical bus' operating life.

One reason electric buses are now appearing on local streets in the U.S. is that their batteries can be charged in just a few minutes, instead of the hours...

A solar cooker called the "Kyoto Box" aims to transform the lives of millions of people who currently live on less than a dollar a day. The simple, cheap, and highly portable box functions as a solar-powered oven, allowing people to save the time and energy now needed to gather firewood for cooking, and also eliminating the carbon dioxide released by their cooking fires.

According to Peter Madden, chief executive of Forum for the Future: “The Kyoto Box has the potential to transform millions of lives and is a model of scalable, sustainable ...

The American economy is built on energy, and we've had so much access to so much energy for so many years that we have never put much of a priority on conservation.

But we could, and if we did, we might be able to follow in the footsteps of Denmark, which now predicts it's going to become totally independent of any need for fossil fuels within four decades, and Scotland, whichwill soon become a net exporter of clean, green electricity!

According to a new report for the Danish government's climate agency (the "Klimakomissionen"), cutting the energy used in most homes by half...
