After years of research and development, PepsiCo says they've mastered the petroleum-free plastic bottle, and plans to put bottles made from 100% renewable plant material in the hands of consumers in the near future.  PepsiCo's announcement is a great victory in the movement toward sustainable packaging.

McDonald's has released their 2010 corporate responsibility report, and among their priorities is the goal to shift their palm oil supply to sustainable palm oil by 2015.  The McDonald's Corporation plans to join the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil in 2011 and make the shift gradually over the next four years.

Thanks to a new partnership between PepsiCo and the DowntownDC Business Improvement District, consumers in Washington DC will have convenient access to public recycling bins, called Dream Machines, to deposit plastic bottles and aluminum cans.  Washington DC is the first U.S. city to partner with PepsiCo on the Dream Machine initiative.

Coca-Cola Enterprises has partnered with ECO Plastics to expand a recycling center in Lincolnshire, UK.  The recycling center, which recycles plastic bottles, will undergo a £15m renovation to expand the facilities; Coca-Cola Enterprises is providing £5m for the project.  This expansion will double the amount of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) currently recycled in the United Kingdom.

The Kellogg company announced in March 2011 that it intends to support sustainable palm oil production by purchasing certificates from GreenPalm, a company that rewards palm oil plantations that use sustainable practices.  Palm oil is a common ingredient in Kellogg's cereals and baked snacks.
