Architect Bruce Fowle co-founded FXFOWLE in 1978 on the philosophical basis that architecture must be conscious and respectful of context and utility while enriching the human experience. Since that time, he has guided the firm to international recognition for excellence in design and environmental responsibility. Bruce’s passion for architecture has remained strong since he began work in the field 46 years ago. He believes that architects have a key role in creating a more humanistic and sustainable society.

Bruce’s design leadership has shaped many of the firm’s most recognized projects, ranging from high-rise, multi-use complexes to cultural institutions and private homes. His work has earned the firm a number of major awards, including a National Honor Award for Design, the highest honor that the American Institute of Architects bestows on a project, for the Condé Nast Building at 4 Times Square. Other recent major projects include the LEED Gold Helena Apartment Tower, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China in Shanghai, the Reuters Building in Times Square, The New York Times Building (with the Renzo Piano Building Workshop) and the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. His current commissions include a new dormitory for the Berkshire School, the expansion of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (in association with Epstein), a new LEED Platinum headquarters building for a corporate client in Pennsylvania, and a carbon-neutral museum celebrating the historic Housatonic River in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

A graduate of the Syracuse University School of Architecture, he was a founder and chair of the school's Advisory Board and was honored with its Sargent Professorship as well as the Arents Award.
