In July 2009, Hornblower Cruises & Events and Respect Our Planet teamed together with the National Parks Service (NPS) and students from Ex'pression College to design an outreach campaign to help educate the public on sustainabilty in marine transportation. As participants in the NPS program, Design Volunteers in Parks, Ex'pression students visited Respect Our Planet to learn more about our our eco-concious fleet and take a ride on our greenest boat, the Hornblower Hybrid, the first hybrid ferry in North America.

The Hybrid uses 80% less fuel than a typical marine vessel of its size by drawing power from re-chargable electric batteries and renewable energy sources such as wind and solar. The boat proved to be a great inspiration for the students and they clearly produced some magnificant work! We are truly grateful to our partners in the National Parks Service as well as the students from Ex'pression College for the opportunity to work together on such an amazing project.
