Absolutely! As a former art educator in the public schools, I dealt with children up close and personal. The problems faced by children of the very poor, and those who came from dysfunctional homes were at such a disadvantage when it came to being able to function in school. Preoccupation with their own personal issues often hindered their ability make adequate progress in school, or even think themselves capable of doing so.
