AT&T and PGR Reported Successful Alliance for AMBER Alert; in Seven-Out-Of Ten Cases the Minor is Recovered

MEXICO CITY, June 2, 2016 /3BL Media/ – As part of the inauguration of the Tri-National Meeting of Liaisons from AMBER Alert Program- with the participation of authorities from Mexico, United States and Canada- the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) recognized AT&T in Mexico for its first year of collaboration with the AMBER Alert program.

Since 2015, AT&T México sends text messages to its user data base, contributing significantly to the recovery of disappeared children. In one year, AT&T has send more than 4 million text messages to its users community, supporting the location of children and teenagers. So far, in 7 out of 10 alerts in which the AT&T community has participated, the child or teen has been found and safely returned to his/her parents (72%).

“At AT&T we know that technology and our network are powerful tools to facilitate the location and recovery of these children”, said Cristina Ruiz de Velasco, Executive Director of External Affairs for AT&T in Mexico. “We have an extensive and successful experience supporting the AMBER Alert program in Mexico and the United States. We are committed to the communities where we operate and we appreciate the opportunity that the Attorney General gives us to collaborate with this program”, she added.

When an AMBER Alert is activated, AT&T strategically sends text messages to its users community in order to collaborate with the government and civil society for the child to return safe to home. In the short time that AT&T has supported AMBER Alert, the company has released 92 alerts from a platform developed specifically for this purpose and its digital network 4G LTE, requesting support to its users community in searching and locating missing children.

Due to these actions and other Corporate Social Responsibility programs, AT&T in Mexico was recently awarded with the 2016 ESR (Socially Responsible Company) recognition granted by the Mexican Center for Philanthropy (CEMEFI).

AMBER Alert breaks the boundaries between countries, states and municipalities. Through their networks and allies, the program overcomes the boundaries of communication and establishes a synergy between the state, private sector and citizens. It also works and promotes preventive measures for parents to work with their children by taking actions around social networks, where most of the times the vulnerability of children is higher.
