Our people are our greatest asset, so we look out for them. That means keeping crewmembers healthy, and including them in conversations about the best benefits packages.
In 2016, we were proactive about preventive healthcare. Using health insurance information, we encouraged crewmembers to use their own biometrics to make smarter choices. Through the Healthy Rewards program, crewmembers earned cash to use toward health expenses through activities like getting preventive screenings, learning CPR, or working out.
We also made some hefty changes to compensation, based on feedback from compensation reviews, SpeakUp results, Values Committees, TLC visits, and pocket sessions. The base for profit-sharing went up, effective January 1, 2017, and company holidays also increased.
Underpinning these adjustments are changes to the current profit-sharing model. JetBlue is shifting some compensation away from profit sharing into base pay, for greater financial stability. Word on Wall Street is that higher fuel and labor costs, along with falling ticket prices, may start squeezing aviation profit margins, so we’re acting now.
