Renewables on the Rise: An Update
Despite some spectacular bankruptcies, startup-challenged technologies, opposition by traditional utilities, and uncertain governmental policies, renewable energy continues on its upward trend. Consider these facts, reports Bloomberg Businessweek. Global investment in renewables now beats that in fossil fuels two to one. Batteries to store power sourced from renewables are becoming cheaper, bigger in capacity, and more reliable. More EV models are being introduced by more automakers. And, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, producers of wind and solar power in Mexico and Morocco are planning to supply electricity at the lowest cost yet. Even Big Oil has noticed: Shell has created a unit for renewables. With climate change as a driver, renewables look to own the future.
